To Arkansas and Back in a “Swagger Wagon”

By Harris III | No Comments

If you follow my wife or I on Twitter or Facebook, you’ve likely heard about all the vehicle problems we’ve been having lately.  We tour in a Toy Hauler. It’s like a moving truck + tour bus + RV.  We definitely got the “lemon”. We’ve had nothing but problems, very few of which the manufacturers have dealt with.  We keep getting shrugged off by both Chevrolet, (the makers of the chassis, cab, and engine), and Gulfstream, (the company who converted and built it out).  It’s been an absolute nightmare for the full four years we’ve owned it.

Anyway…we had an event in Arkansas last night at Harding University, and it was out of commission.  We couldn’t make repairs over the weekend, so we ended up renting a vehicle to get us to Arkansas and back.  Tried to find a cargo van, but couldn’t. And every rental car company in Nashville was out of SUV’s.  So, we rented one of these…and yes, I drove it with pride:   READ ALL

Current Tour, Rescued from Meaninglessness

A few years ago, I read a quote from a book written by an author I won’t mention the name of.  (Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to, but I’d have plenty of friends scratching their heads, wondering why I’d read a book written by ‘that guy.’  Or worse, freaking out that I’d “endorse” him by publicly writing that I enjoyed the book.  Anyway…that’s a rabbit trail, and I don’t like rabbits.  Please, save the magic/rabbit jokes…I’ve heard them before.)

The quote went on to inspire a thought for me, and it’s something that has inspired much of what I share when performing live shows.  The basic thought is this…   READ ALL

Ever been hit in the crotch with a Deck of Cards thrown at lightening speed? I have…

Back in January, I performed for a group of about 5,000 teenagers at a conference called TCTC.  Let me simply say that in live performances, especially if performing for kids or teenagers, you never know what’s going to happen.  Enjoy one of the most painful moments I’ve ever experienced while performing live on stage…   READ ALL

Chasing after love in a spirit house…

We successfully made it to Thailand! It’s 1:00 am on Sunday morning. I’m writing from my quaint hotel room in Bangkok, and managed to stay up past midnight.  If you’re reading this right after I posted it, it means I’ve already experienced the Saturday that you’re just starting.  If you want to know if anything exciting happens in your future for today, just shoot me an email.  Wait…on second thought, that probably won’t work.  I’d have to be psychic, and I’m pretty sure I’ve already debunked that concept in another blog post.

We actually got here last night, and have had the last 24 hours to get reacquainted with Thailand.  We basically spent the day rummaging around Bangkok and doing our best to stay awake. It’s our initial effort in allowing our bodies to adjust to the 12 hour time change.

As I re-experienced Thai culture, I was once again reminded of the importance of being here.   READ ALL

Sens de Vie: Can I Walk on Water?

By Harris III | No Comments

Our fall tour this year is titled “Sens de Vie“, which is French for “The Meaning of Life.” It’s inspired by Vaudeville, which to many people is a lost performance art in America today.  Vaudeville is based on a french word, and provided much of our inspiration for the evening variety show we’ll be presenting to audiences across the Southeast and Midwest this fall.

Joining me will be my good friend and world champion circus performer, DonB!, as well as my new friends Everlife, 3 sisters who became Hollywood Records recording artists, toured with Miley Cyrus, and just opened for the Jonas Brothers.  With that kind of resume, as you could expect, these girls are incredibly gifted, and you’ll be blown away by their moments throughout the show. They’ve been given a big platform in today’s culture, and they utilize it with courage and humility.

Three years ago I started telling people, “I’m going to create a production that reaches the kind of people who aren’t interested in going to church on Sunday. And I’m going to do the shows in the kind of places they’re already going to experience entertainment. And, I’m going to charge people to get in.”  A few said, “That sounds amazing! Go for it!” But most just laughed and said, “It won’t work.” READ ALL
