My Future Competition: Jordan the Great!

By Harris III | 8 Comments

Not long ago, I received a Facebook message from someone who had seen our show in Roanoke, VA, and had bought one of our magic sets.  It included a video that almost made me cry.  It’s pretty long, and you may not have time to watch Jordan’s entire show, but you HAVE to take 60 seconds out of your schedule to watch the first minute of this video.  I promise, you’ll smile.

It’s videos like this one that make me realize the value and importance of illusionism.TV.  Magic is awesome for kids, for so many reasons, and I can’t wait to see what kind of aspiring magicians are born out of such an exciting project!  If you haven’t checked it out yet, be sure to take a look.  It’s child friendly, safe and secure, and your kids will love it! Check out the site, and learn magic tricks now: http://illusionism.TV

What I’ve learned from Social Media

By Harris III | No Comments

A couple of weeks ago, I made an urgent request for help.  We found ourselves in quite a pickle, after violence sprung up in Thailand, and our tour there got cancelled last second.  (Click here to read about that.)  So rather than sit around for a month or two, we decided to go out and use our talents, and serve anyone who was willing to let us show up and do what we do.

I’ve been blown away by how people responded so immediately!  Everyone started tweeting, re-tweeting, posting to Facebook, making calls and sending emails, and before you know it, we had plenty of opportunities and invitations to make a huge dent in our July & August schedule.  We’re even going to Nicaragua for a week…more on that in a later post.

Honestly, I can’t believe what’s happening.   READ ALL

Lives changed by magic…

By Harris III | 1 Comment

In this day and age, it’s rare to get mail from real people. And when you do, it’s even more rare that it’s hand-written.  Today, I cleaned off my desk, and rediscovered some hand-written letters that have come in. As I read through them, I was once again blown away that God actually uses something as crazy as simple magic tricks, performed by an incredibly imperfect guy like me, to actually impact people’s lives.  Here are a few excerpts from recent letters…

In a child’s handwriting:

“Dear Mr. Harris, The story you told us about following your dream really inspired me.  I learned that I need to follow God with my dream.  God has given me the dream of being a doctor in poor countries in Africa.  The only problem is that I’ve been trying to follow it my own way, not God’s.  Your story taught me a big lesson that I will never forget.  Thank you!”

“We would do more events if…” Really??

By Harris III | 5 Comments

This past weekend, we had the honor of partnering with 88.3, a radio station based in Springfield, MO. They did a Valentine’s Day event for their listeners, and we had an absolute blast performing for a PACKED house.  It was a really, really fun event for us, and is probably the 4th or 5th radio station we’ve partnered with here in the U.S.

This morning, my assistant Beth got the following email in her inbox from Ben Birdsong, the Station Manager. It was completely unsolicited, and 100% unexpected:   READ ALL

How to Feel Beautiful – Everlife sings “What’s Beautiful”, and discusses how deception impacts your self-image…

By Harris III | 1 Comment

A question for the girls: Do you feel beautiful today?

If you’ve seen me perform live, you may have heard me talk about how easy it is to be deceived, and one of the ways it happens is how the world attempts to define what true beauty is.  Every day you drive by billboards, see ads on TV, and look at pictures as you flip through magazines, and it’s everything inside of you to feel pretty.  Does the world and it’s blurred messages of self-image impact how you see yourself in the mirror?   READ ALL

Are car companies deceiving millions of people? Or am I just crazy?

By Harris III | 2 Comments

I recently blogged about the Dangerous Deception of Taco Bell, and used their newest commercial to illustrate how deceptive advertising can be, and the lasting, life-changing impact it can have on our lives.  Out of curiosity, I thought I’d find another ad we might be able to learn from.  To be honest, I wondered how long it would take.  I thought, “Let’s try a car commercial. How about BMW?”  And this is the first one I found.

Total time to find a deceptive ad on YouTube: 60 seconds. 15 seconds to search, and 45 more to watch the commercial.  Of course, the ad being deceptive is just my opinion. To me, the promise they make is just an illusion. READ ALL

The Dangerous Deception of Taco Bell

By Harris III | 4 Comments

Last night I dropped by a friend’s house to catch a little bit of the Bama vs. Texas Championship game. (Congrat’s to all you Bama fans!)  While there, a TV commercial came on advertising Taco Bell’s Fresco menu, which supposedly contains less fat than the rest of their menu items.  As we watched, my friend (who also is currently trying to get back in shape), was trying to figure out if it was a real commercial, or if Taco Bell was being sarcastic.  Turns out, they’re “for real.”

That was just last night, and already one of my crew guys asked me today in the process of choosing our lunch spot, “Have you seen the Taco Bell commercial about the new healthy menu?”  Wow…word travels fast! Advertising works, huh?

Or does it? READ ALL

“_________ Church: A Community where Life is Comfortable & Invigorating!” Umm, try again.

By Harris III | 4 Comments

The SquareI passed this sign today in Germantown, (the part of downtown Nashville we live in), and sadly, I couldn’t help but think, “Wow, that sounds like a church flyer.”

So many churches these days are obsessed with comfort. I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s easier to grow your church that way, since churches are just groups of people, and people in general are obsessed with comfort, safety, and security. The problem is this: Churches claim to study, believe, and teach the Bible. And my copy of the Bible doesn’t have much to say about promising comfort and security.  In fact, a lot of the people who followed Jesus in the Bible got their heads chopped off.  And at the least, did some jail time.

I know, this isn’t an ad about a church.  But the reality is, many of the churches in America today could just change the name on this sign to the name of their church.  ”__________ Church: A community where life is comfortable.”   READ ALL
